- Yes, that's precisely the point. If you can choose a set of rules
- which are appropriate to *your project* then you are going to work
- more efficiently. I'm glad to see that this is the approach being
- suggested by the SEI CMM level 3 where project managers are expected
- to take the "Organisation Standard Software Process" and apply the
- tailoring guidelines to it to derive a set of procedures for a
- specific project. I see no reason why this approach cannot be adopted
- for all engineering activities. The constraints in the tailoring
- guidelines should be project/customer specific (including issues such
- as safety/security etc.) not 'overly forced' by the
- implementation. Of course, taken to extremes we would all be designing
- perpetual motion machines into our systems :-)
